Edward Horak’s career began in one of the “Big 8” accounting firms, and through diligent address to detail and a strong focus on client relationships, developed into his own firm that assists his clients in achieving their goals, but also has evolved into a format that allows him to enjoy every aspect of his involvement.
After graduation from DePaul University in 1982, where he attained membership in a National Academic Honor Society, he worked at Price Waterhouse in the Audit division until accepting a position with one of the firm’s clients in their internal audit group. The managerial experience was invaluable in making the transition from the audit side of the desk to the role of Controller. Over a decade of financial executive positions, which included Director of Accounting for the Chicago Sun-Times, and Chief Financial Officer for one of Chicago’s largest family owned corporations, Mr. Horak launched his own firm. While specializing in accounting services for small to mid-size firms, he drew upon a personal interest in real estate to enhance his offerings with a strong presence in real estate management and development services. During the early stages of his career, he returned to DePaul University as an evening student and obtained an MBA in Finance. Some of the most satisfying client involvements are with the numerous start-up companies that he has been instrumental in assisting. Those on-going relationships still continue to bring intense satisfaction. Personal interests have included racing Nascar, performing and training in comedy at Second City and Improv Olympics and even acted in a national “Old Spice” commercial, which aired for over three years. Performing credits even include an appearance in the motion picture, “The Dark Knight”. A life-long ambition to teach was realized when Mr. Horak became a professor of finance teaching on-campus classes at the University of Phoenix. An avid golfer, good fortune has allowed play to include; St Andrews, GlenEagles, KingsBarns, and Pinehurst #2. While personal interests serve well to enjoy life, the success of his clients provides immense satisfaction.
